How We Prepare Your Tax Return From Start to Finish

We start by going through your W-2s,1099s, last year's return, and any business records you bring in. For self-employed clients, charter captains, and rental property owners, we also look at income that does not come with a standard tax form, so nothing gets left off your return.

We check your return for every deduction and credit that fits your situation, including home office costs, business use of a vehicle or boat, retirement contributions, and education credits. If a hurricane damaged your home or property, we also review whether you qualify for a casualty loss deduction.

Once your numbers are confirmed, we prepare your federal tax return and file it electronically with the IRS. Florida has no state personal income tax, so most individuals in the Keys only file a federal return. If you own a business, we will tell you which other state filings apply to you.

If the IRS sends you a letter, or you need a copy of your return for a loan or lease application, call our office. We keep your records on file and can help you prepare for next year, so tax season brings fewer surprises.

The deadline for most individual returns is April 15. After major hurricanes, the IRS often postpones deadlines for Monroe County residents and businesses. We track these announcements and let our clients know when their deadline changes.
