January 2026 Tax Due Dates: Essential Information

With the start of 2026, it's crucial to remain vigilant about key tax deadlines for individuals, including critical tasks such as estimated tax payments, tip reporting, and effective tax planning strategies. Ensure you're prepared and informed about these important dates.

January 2 - Schedule Your Tax Consultation

The New Year heralds the opening of tax season. It is wise to arrange your tax preparation consultation early to ensure timely filing and avoid the rush as the season progresses.Image 3

January 12 - Tip Income Reporting Deadline

If you earn tip income and received more than $20 during December, ensure you report these amounts to your employer by January 12. Utilize IRS Form 4070 or your personalized statement with necessary details, including your identification, the reporting period, and total tips.Image 2

Your employer will deduct FICA and income taxes from your regular wages for these tips. Should your wages not cover the required withholdings, the outstanding amounts will be shown in box 8 of your W-2 form, to be settled when filing your annual return.

January 15 - Fourth Quarter Estimated Tax Payment Due

This is the final date for settling your fourth quarter estimated tax payment for 2025. Missing this deadline necessitates filing your 2025 return and paying any owed taxes by February 2, 2026, to avoid penalties for underpayment.

Weekends & Holidays

In instances where a deadline lands on a weekend or designated public holiday, it automatically extends to the next business day that isn't itself a holiday.

Disaster Area Extensions

In declared disaster zones, extensions on filing dates are typically granted. Stay informed on such declarations via the following resources:
